Choosing your dream bed

Choosing a mattress needn't give you nightmares. The first step is to decide which type of mattress is right for you.

Memory foam mattresses

Latex mattresses: A natural rubber product that quickly recovers its shape. It's ideal if you suffer from allergies or asthma, as latex is naturally hypo-allergenic and even helps to inhibit dust mites.

Memory foam mattresses: This clever material moulds perfectly to your body, relieving pressure points and helping to prevent restlessness. It's available in single mattresses as well as double mattresses.

Sprung mattresses: This is the most popular mattress type, containing traditional metal springs that give comfortable, effective support. Sprung mattresses come in various types, but generally, the more springs they contain, the firmer the support.

Your guide to choosing the right sprung mattress:

Open coil mattress
Open coil mattress: An all-round, great-value spring system that's ideal for kids' beds as well as adult beds.
Continuous spring mattress Continuous spring mattress: Gives a smooth, responsive feel and rules out bumps with the added advantage of no roll-together.
Trizone mattress Trizone mattress: Offers more support where your body needs it most – in the middle of the bed.
Pocket sprung mattress Pocket sprung mattress: Uses individual springs held in place by fabric. This means it prevents roll-together, it's extremely comfortable, very supportive, and the most durable mattress type in the long term.

Comfort and support

It's a myth that the harder the mattress, the better it is for your back. In fact, the right mattress should support your body totally and feel natural when you're lying on it. To help you choose, we label all our mattresses as medium, medium/firm or firm.

The final thing to consider is the finish of the mattress. Mattress tops are the perfect way to add a little extra comfort and protect your mattress at the same time. This top layer, between you and the springs, can really affect how the bed feels to sleep in.

Micro quilting mattresses
Micro quilting mattresses provide layers of fibres with a stitched patterned surface for comfort.
Deep quilting mattresses Deep quilting mattresses offer deeper layers of quilting for increased comfort.
Cushion top mattresses
Cushion top mattresses have an integrated layer of padded fibres on the top of the mattress, for sumptuous cushioning and comfort.
Pillow top mattresses Pillow top mattresses offer an additional layer of padded fibres on the top of the mattress, for complete cushioning and comfort.

Tufted mattresses
Tufted mattresses give a firmer feel as tufting from the top through to the bottom layers of the mattress holds all the fibres in place.
Memory foam mattress Memory foam mattress tops can be used on their own as a mattress or added to the top layer of a spring unit to give additional support and cradling. They're also heat-sensitive.
Latex mattresses
Latex mattresses are like memory foam and can be used on their own. But they're also an ideal top layer. That's because latex is quick to respond to movement, so it can help to alleviate a restless night's sleep.
